DESCRIPTION:UKIAFR Study day – 6th December – Birmingham\, UK\n					\n									Tickets here\n					 \nLimited in person tickets available for the UK IAFR study day on December 6th are now available to purchase starting at £65 (virtual attendance £55) \nwith a full line up of speakers including Dr Richard Shepherd (renowned forensic pathologist) and Professor Catherine Mason (senior coroner for Leicester City and South Leicestershire) \nDr Shepherd\, who has authored best selling books “unnatural causes” and “the seven ages of death” is on tour at the moment and is kindly joining us to discuss his career in forensic pathology \nThere will also be a social event following the study day where we will raise a glass to 20 years of the IAFR! \nLine up below with more to be announced!  \n\nDr Richard Shepherd\nAuthor of Bestselling books ‘Unnatural Causes’ and ‘Seven\nAges of Death’ – With more than 23\,000 autopsies to his name\, Dr Shepherd has\nbecome a household name in the world of forensic pathology. Some of his notable\ncases include – The Spy in the Bag (Gareth Williams)\, the Hungerford Massacre\,\nthe sinking of the Marchioness\, Joy\, Gardner\, the Princess Diana Inquiry\, 9/11\nterrorist attack\, Jo Cox MP\, London Bombings\, Russian assassination squads and\nmore. From serial killers to DVI and to uncovering the truth of unthinkable\nevents\, his work has pioneered forensic investigations and bought justice to\nthose who need it. \n \n\nProfessor Catherine Mason\nProfessor Catherine Mason was appointed Senior Coroner for\nLeicester City and South Leicestershire in March 2009. In this role\, she\noversees the independent investigations of approximately 1700 deaths and\nconducts around 250 inquests each year. Her primary role is to find the cause\nof a sudden or unnatural death by asking witnesses\, public bodies and\npathologists questions in court and may make recommendations to prevent similar\ndeaths in the future. She has also been the incident coroner for mass fatalities\nsuch as MH17 (the Malaysian Aircraft shot down over Ukraine)\, the Sri Lankan\nEaster terrorist attacks and the helicopter crash at King Power Stadium in\nLeicester. She pioneered post-mortem CT scanning and championed organ donation.\nHer career has been defined by compassion\, innovation\, and an unwavering\ncommitment to justice – a legacy that has transformed the coroner’s service and\ntouched countless lives. She has also been awarded outstanding achievement by\nthe National Muslim Community Service Awards for her work in less/non-invasive\nPost Mortem examinations. \n \n\nDr Mark Viner\nDr Mark Viner has over forty years’ experience as radiographer\, radiology manager and senior manager in major London hospitals. He is currently Senior Tutor in radiography at Queen Mary University of London and Senior Lecturer in Forensic Radiography at Cranfield University\, as well as working part-time as a radiographer at Lymington Hospital in Hampshire and PMCT radiographer at the East London Forensic Centre.\nHe is internationally recognised for his work in forensic radiography and has published many scientific papers\, textbooks and textbook chapters. He gained his PhD by Published Work in 2020 in the development of standards and standard operating procedures in forensic radiography.\nHe is a founder board member of both the International Association of Forensic Radiographers (IAFR) and the International Society of Forensic Radiology and Imaging (ISFRI) and a founder editorial board member of the Journal of Forensic Imaging. He holds the Diploma of Forensic Medical Sciences and the Diploma of Forensic Human Identification and is a member of the Chartered Forensic Science Society\, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and the British Association for Forensic Odontology. He was awarded a Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowship and the Fellowship of the College of Radiographers in 2005 and the Gold Medal of the Society and College of Radiographers in 2010.\n \n\nDr Charlotte Primeau\nDr Charlie (Charlotte) Primeau is an Assistant Professor in Forensic Imaging and leads the forensic micro-CT department at the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG)\, University of Warwick. Her current practice is exclusively focused on forensic post-mortem micro-CT imaging. Dr Primeau’s expertise supports homicide and serious crime investigations across UK police forces\, in cases involving child and vulnerable adult abuse\, sharp and blunt force trauma\, strangulation\, and dismemberment. Her research interest is particularly centred on forensic imaging in the context of child and elder abuse. She has a dual background as a diagnostic radiographer and as a certified forensic anthropologist (FA Level III) with the Royal Anthropological Institute (RAI) of the UK. Dr Primeau serves on the committee of the UK Branch of the IAFR\, where she currently holds the role of Treasurer.\n \n\nLaura Knight\nLaura is a Senior Teaching Fellow in Diagnostic Radiography & Medical Imaging at the University of Portsmouth. Clinically\, Laura is a Specialist Paediatric Radiographer with over 10 years’ experience in dedicated children’s imaging centres. Laura also holds an MSc in Forensic Imaging from Teesside University\, and has extensive experience with both living & deceased paediatric forensic & Post-mortem imaging. Laura Co-directs the Portsmouth Child Death Immersion Programme- a multidisciplinary event bringing together medical & law enforcement professionals to investigate a child death in an immersive simulated environment. Laura is also the previous Chair of the UK Branch of the IAFR and sits on the International Guidance for Suspected Physical Abuse (IGSPA) group- aiming to update and publish internationally appropriate guidelines for the radiological investigation of child abuse & maltreatment.\n \n\nDr Claire Robinson MBE\nClaire is a Consultant Radiographer in forensic imaging in Leicester\, UK where she runs the forensic imaging services. She has been involved in forensic imaging and research for over 20 years during which she has helped develop coronary PMCT angiography and the use of PMCT in DVI.
