SUMMARY:ANZ Branch Feb Webinar: Forensic Radiographers - Giving Evidence in Court
DESCRIPTION:ANZ Branch presents two webinars:\n\n\nRadiographers being a Witness in court by Michael Proudfoot\nDuring Michael’s career\, he has had to act multiple times as an expert witness for the NSW Police and/or the NSW Coroners Department and on two occasions act as the principal witness for the Plaintiff appearing before the Health Care Complaints Unit and the NSW Supreme Court. He wishes to share these experiences\, some of which were confronting\, to give you a better understanding of how the process works and what you may possibly encounter. The world of Forensic Radiography and Imaging in general can encompass many situations in which we may be called upon to participate in situations that may become confronting. This not only involves the imaging involved and how best to perform them\, the necessary documentation but also if we to appear before the regulatory body to act as either expert witnesses\, or a witness for the Plaintiff if we are present at an unforeseen event.\n\nSo you have been asked to be an Expert Witness- what to consider before you say yes!\nChristine is a senior practicing radiographer with a long history in lecturing\, CT scanning\, student supervision\, accreditation and fluoroscopy. She is currently employed as a senior radiographer at Royal Hobart Hospital in Tasmania\, Australia. Being asked to act as an expert witness means you are recognised as having specialised knowledge or expertise in your field. In this webinar\, Christine explores what this role truly involves—from reviewing records\, reports\, and documentation\, to applying best practice standards\, professional norms\, and evidence-based methodology. \nThis session will discuss: \n– What it means to be an expert witness\n– Time commitments and professional responsibilities\n– Reviewing documentation and requesting additional information\n– The possibility of court appearances and cross-examination\n– The professional challenges and rewards of expert witness work\nWhile the role can be time-consuming and demanding\, it is also intellectually engaging\, professionally rewarding\, and often a powerful learning experience that can influence and improve future practice.\n\nIAFR member: Free \nNon-member: $15 \nRegister now via Thinkific link: https://iafr-elearning.thinkific.com/courses/radiographer-expert-witness-25-february-2026

SUMMARY:ANZ Branch May Webinar: NAI Imaging
DESCRIPTION:ANZ Branch presents two webinars:\n\n1. Doing Better – Growth in NAI Imaging by Chris Houghton\nChris is a radiographer with nearly 30 years of experience\, currently working as Senior Tutor Radiographer at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital and an Adjunct Academic at Charles Sturt University. In this webinar\, he explores how rural hospitals can ensure high-quality imaging in cases of suspected Non-Accidental Injury (NAI)\, sharing practical insights from a journey of continuous learning and improvement to deliver gold standard care in rural Australia. \n2. Red Flags and Real Data: What two years of NAI data tells us by Carolyn Heyes\nCarolyn is a highly experienced radiographer who qualified in 1985 and has worked across both public and private sectors in roles including Clinical Tutor\, Deputy Chief\, and Chief Radiographer. With over 16 years of paediatric experience\, she is currently a Senior Medical Imaging Technologist at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne and is actively involved with the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (ASMIRT)\, having served on multiple committees\, including the Board of Directors. She has a strong passion for orthopaedic imaging and is dedicated to clinical teaching and supporting students. \nIn this webinar\, Carolyn presents a retrospective study examining two years of Non-Accidental Injury (NAI) Skeletal Surveys. She explores key questions including the percentage of positive NAI skeletal surveys\, which clinical indications are more likely to result in a positive study\, and the proportion of referred patients identified as victims of NAI. She also outlines the study methodology\, which involves auditing imaging requests\, reports\, and clinical notes\, and discusses her findings to determine whether any clinical indicators are consistently associated with positive NAI studies. \nIAFR member: Free \nNon-member: $15 \nRegister now via Thinkific link: https://iafr-elearning.thinkific.com/bundles/iafr-webinar-series-2026-2027-free-to-iafr-members
