The documents regarding the AGM will be available for the members via the Members’ Area of our website. Link for the online meeting will be sent to members via email. \nIn addition to the business meeting\, we have an exciting programme of lectures on the subject of “The Forensic Investigation of War Crimes and Mass Graves”. The webinars will be held at at 08:30-13:00 UTC/GMT (09:30-14:00 BST/London). \nSpeakers at the webinar: \nMs Caroline Barker\nChief of Forensic Section\, United Nations Investigative Team to Promote\nAccountability Against Da’esh/ISIL Crimes (UNITAD)\nMr Robert McNeil\, MBE\nFormerly NHS Mortuary Operations Manager\, Glasgow\nAffiliate Artist for UNESCO RILA\, an Ambassador for Remembering Srebrenica\nUK\, and a Patron of the UK Bosniak Network\nMr Roland Wessling\nLecturer in Forensic Archaeology and Anthropology\, Cranfield Forensic\nInstitute\, Defence Academy of the United Kingdom\nDr Mark Viner\nSenior Lecturer in Forensic Radiography\, Cranfield Forensic Institute\, Defence\nAcademy of the United Kingdom & Senior Tutor in Radiography\, Barts & the London School of Medicine & Dentistry\, Queen Mary University of London \nMass graves are a frequent legacy of conflict and human rights abuses. Survivors have a\nneed to know the truth about the fate of their loved ones\, and they have the right under\ninternational and domestic law\, to the pursuit of truth\, justice and reparation. Governments\nhave statutory obligations to survivors\, including the obligation to ensure that the human\nremains of victims are identified and returned to families so that they can be buried with\ndignity\, and appropriate memorialization can take place. \nRadiology plays a key role in the forensic investigation of war crimes and mass graves.\nDrawing on their experiences of investigating and analysing forensic evidence from mass\ngraves and clandestine burials in the former Yugoslavia\, Sierra Leone\, Iraq\, Cyprus and the\nRepublic of Ireland\, our four keynote speakers will outline the painstaking processes\nfollowed in order to preserve and record the evidence. The role played by radiology and radiographers in these historical incidents will be examined in order to highlight the lessons\nlearned for future investigations. \nRegistration fee for the webinar:\nIAFR Members FREE\nNon-members $25 \nRegistration is now open at our eLearning site!\n(For members this course is included in the “2022 Webinar Series”)

SUMMARY:IAFR Webinar on Paediatric Paleo-Radiology
DESCRIPTION:Presenter: Dr Katherine Van Schaik \n  \nThis paper evaluates the use of paleoradiology techniques in the analysis of pediatric remains and offers an algorithmic protocol for the evaluation of pediatric skeletal and soft tissue remains. We searched for relevant literature from three major bioarchaeological journals\, PubMed\, and the Yearbook of Mummy Studies\, and supplemented this review with protocols and studies published in radiological journals.Findings demonstrate that\, although radiological techniques are used with increasing frequency in the assessment of pediatric remains\, no standardized pediatric imaging protocols exist. This is the first literature review to focus exclusively on pediatric paleoradiology and the first proposal of imaging protocols tailored for the assessment of pediatric remains from bioarchaeological contexts. It holds implications for how paleoradiology techniques might be systematically used and applied to pediatric remains from multiple time periods\, across the world. We also offer imaging protocol and reporting recommendations specific to pediatric remains from bioarchaeological contexts. \nAbout the presenter\nDr. Van Schaik is an American Board of Radiology Holman Research Pathway resident in radiology at Harvard Medical School. SUMMARY:UK Branch Webinar: How to do PMCT and Angiography
DESCRIPTION:The UK branch of the IAFR is excited to share our webinar entitled ‘How to do PMCT and Angiography’ with you. This webinar is for all IAFR members and will take place via zoom on Tuesday 8th February from 7-8pm. \n\nInterest in replacing invasive autopsies with PMCT scans in non-suspicious deaths is increasing in the UK. This led to the development of PMCT angiography (PMCTA) techniques to increase the range of pathologies that can be diagnosed. This presentation will explain how to complete PMCTA scans using different PMCTA techniques. It will explain a PMCTA process\, what contrasts can be used\, how to use the contrasts\, scan parameters and when PMCTA may not be required. \nDr Claire Robinson will be presenting this webinar. She is a Consultant Radiographer in post-mortem imaging in Leicester. Having been involved in forensic and post-mortem imaging and research for more than 20 years\, she has a varied experience including helping to develop targeted coronary artery PMCT angiography techniques\, completed whole body angiography research locally and as part of the international study and helped develop ventilated PMCT methods. She has also been involved in developing the use of CT in mass fatalities and has worked on several DVI incidents. Claire regularly presents at national and international conferences\, teaches on PMCT courses and has been published numerous times. She was awarded a PhD on the use of PMCT in diagnosing coronary artery disease in non-suspicious deaths in 2021. \nRegistration for Members £0 \nRegistration for Non-Members £5

SUMMARY:ANZ Branch Webinar: Imaging in the Green
DESCRIPTION:Join the ANZ branch of the IAFR for their next webinar Imaging in the Green by Capt. Julian Thacker.\nCaptain Thacker trained as a radiographer at Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology qualifying with a Bachelor of Medical Imaging in January 2009. He worked at Waikato Hospital in all areas of the general radiography department and then cardiology before re-enlisting in the New Zealand Defence Force as a reserve Radiographer in 2012\, transferring to the Regular force in 2013.\nCaptain Thacker is currently the Senior Radiographer for Defence and Officer in Charge of the Diagnostic Support Team\, which includes both medical imaging and laboratory scientists. \nCaptain Thacker served as a Reserve Forces Medic in the 1990’s\, has been a volunteer ambulance officer\, a volunteer firefighter for over 20 years\, and enjoys photography and archery. \nWe are very much looking forward to his presentation on being a radiographer in the armed forces. Medical Imaging in the New Zealand Army incorporates many skills over and above those of a civilian radiographer. While the core skill we are employed for is obviously our medical imaging trade\, there are a variety of additional skills we are required to learn that are particular to the NZ Defence Force. From weapons training to cooking in the field\, leadership to military law\, there are many facets to being an Officer in the New Zealand Defence Force. There are also opportunities to learn new skills that may be of interest to an individual such as heavy vehicle licences\, shooting coaching\, and military health planning. \nMedical imaging in the field incorporates all the skills we employ with regard to trauma imaging\, adaptive technique and can involve periods of intense activity along with long spells of boredom. The ability to manage oneself is critical in this environment\, where you are generally deployed as a sole radiographer and can be called on with no notice to manage everything from a sprained finger to multiple trauma scenarios. Working very closely with the medical team is critical to managing the workload\, your own well being and that of the team to enable effective patient treatment. \nRegistration:\nhttps://www.trybooking.com/BTOZK \nIAFR Member $0\nASMIRT/NZIMRT Member $10\nNon-Member $20

SUMMARY:ANZ Branch Webinar: Forensic Anthropology in the Field
DESCRIPTION:The ANZ Branch of the International Association of Forensic Radiographers are proud to present two online webinars on Forensic Anthropology and Archaeology in June and July. Forensic anthropology and archaeology are fields which run closely alongside forensic imaging but are often misunderstood or overlooked when we think of the radiography world. While Forensic anthropologists and archaeologists can often be found working synchronously to search for\, recover and identify human remains\, there are very different objectives and skills involved. \nThese webinars will help forensic radiographers understand more about forensic anthropology and forensic archaeology\, explain some of the techniques used and discuss how imaging is playing a role in these fields. We also introduce our wonderful speakers Nick and Donna\, who both have a wealth of experience in the field of archaeology and anthropology and will share their work and experiences with us. \nOn the 28TH July 7:30pm AEST we will have Donna MacGregor presenting Forensic Anthropology in the Field.  Donna is a lecturer in forensic science and anatomy\, with a background as a forensic anthropologist in the Australian Army Reserves and also worked for the Queensland Police force as a crime scene investigator. \nDonna’s work with the Australian Army as a forensic anthropologist allows the recovery of War Casualties\, very important and interesting work. We are lucky enough to have Donna speak about some of her experiences of forensic anthropology in the field and her work with the Army and Police. \nRegistration is free for IAFR members\, $10 for ASMIRT/NZMIRT members and $20 for non-members. \nRegistration: https://www.trybooking.com/BSZAP \nCPD certificates of attendance will only be issued to those who attend the live webinar. \nPlease note this webinar will NOT be recorded so you MUST be available to attend the live event!

SUMMARY:IAFR Webinar #24 - The Importance of Documentation in Medico-Legal Cases
DESCRIPTION:Steve Naidoo is a specialist forensic pathologist\, with over 30 years’ experience.  Special interests include applied forensic anatomy\, the pathology of trauma\, and sexual offences.  He worked with the Truth Commission in South Africa\, death investigations in Mozambique\, in the Former Yugoslavia (Bosnia\, Croatia and Kosovo)\, the 2012 Marikana Massacre\, East Africa\, and in The Gambia.  As Associate Professor in Forensic Medicine\, he was the first Chairman of the African Society of Forensic Medicine.  He has had much experience in giving testimony in court.  Steve does independent consulting and is currently involved in training in sexual abuse medicine. \n\nAbstract \nAbstract \nEvidence from medico-legal examinations is often presented in a court.  In order for such evidence to be admissible\, it must have been gathered and presented according to the rules of evidence appropriate for the relevant jurisdiction. Witnesses presenting evidence must be able to show an unbroken link between the evidence that they present and the subject of the examination and/or the crime scene.  The conduct and documentation of medico-legal examinations is therefore of the highest importance. The talk will cover the rules and procedures of evidence in the courtroom\, how the legal system operates and discuss good practice for documentation of medico-legal examinations and the pitfalls that await the unprepared. The speaker will use case examples from his wide experience as a previous state pathologist and professor of Forensic Medicine and later independent expert. \nRegistration for is free for IAFR members and £5 for non-members.  Please use the links below to register: \nMember Registration \nNon-member Registration

SUMMARY:Webinar #20 - Mindfulness for Healthcare Professionals
DESCRIPTION:Mindfulness for Healthcare Professionals – Courtney Steels \nPresenter Bio \nCourtney has been a radiographer since the end of 2013\, after graduating from Curtin University in Perth\, Western Australia.   After attending a Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) course in Melbourne in 2018\, Courtney’s interest in forensic radiography was sparked and she became a member of the inaugural ANZ-IAFR branch.  Her love for travel led her to work briefly in the Northern Territory before moving to the UK in April 2019 where she currently resides.  Mindfulness is a topic close to Courtney’s heart and something she is passionate about sharing with others.  Finding Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy to Courtney was like finding a toolbox at the end of a rainbow\, the principles are simple\, it makes sense and it really works.  The skills you can gain from mindfulness are applicable in any situation in or out of work.  Courtney is a big advocate for encouraging others to build mindfulness practices into their own routines. \n\nAbstract \nBeing healthcare professionals\, we have to empathise with our patients without getting too attached\, be present for them whilst we have many other things going on around us and manage the confronting things we see along the way in our roles\, putting on a brave face and carrying on.  We can be left feeling stressed or overwhelmed at times or even just find ourselves being wound up\, with a need to pause and hit the reset button.  The practice of Mindfulness is about being in the present moment and gaining skills which allow us to remain calm\, reduce stress and achieve the best focus and mental performance. During this presentation on Mindfulness for Healthcare Professionals Courtney will be discussing what mindfulness is\, the benefits and principles of mindfulness and how healthcare professionals can use these skills in their work and everyday life.   Courtney will also be sharing some important and useful resources. \nRegistration for is free for IAFR members and £5 for non-members.  Please use the links below to register: \nMember Registration \nNon-member Registration

SUMMARY:IAFR Webinar #17 - Post-Mortem CT
DESCRIPTION:Post-Mortem CT – Amy-Lee Brookes\n \nAmy is the Lead Post-Mortem Radiographer at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and has extensive experience in adult post-mortem imaging\, including plain-film\, CT and angiography.  Having previously worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital\, London\, Amy also has vast experience in paediatric forensic imaging\, for both living and post-mortem cases.  Amy also holds an MSc in Forensic Radiography from Teesside University. \n\nAbstract: \nIn recent years the use of post-mortem imaging techniques has increased significantly\, particularly the use of post-mortem CT (PMCT) for both coronial and home office cases within the UK. In some jurisdictions PMCT has almost completely replaced the traditional post-mortem examination for coronial cases\, although it is currently only used as an adjunct for all home office post-mortem examinations. This presentation will look at the use of CT in a dedicated NHS PMCT unit\, including the set-up of the department\, scans undertaken and case studies. \nRegistration for is free for IAFR members and £5 for non-members.  Please use the links below to register: \nMember Registration \nNon-member Registration
