SUMMARY:IAFR Webinar: Managing the DVI Scene
DESCRIPTION:Date: 26 th July 2023\nTime: 09.00 UTC / 19.00 AEST\nPresenter: Inspector Rod Anderson \nAbstract\nDisaster Victim Identification (DVI) is the term given to procedures used to positively identify\ndeceased victims of a multiple casualty event. One of the greatest problems arising from any\nincident involving multiple fatalities is the identification of victims to the satisfaction of the\nCoroner. \nThe scene(s) should be treated as crime scene(s) and all human remains left in situ until the arrival\nof Crime Scene Investigation and DVI recovery teams\, in accordance with jurisdictional policies.\nThe scene(s) is photographed and the position of all human remains recorded. The human\nremains are then labelled\, recovered and transported to the mortuary. Relevant property located\nat the scene is collected and recorded. \nBio\nInspector Rod Anderson APM\, joined the AFP in 1990. Currently\, he is the Officer-in-Charge of\nTuggeranong Police Station in the ACT and is the AFP DVI Commander since 2008. These include the Asian Tsunami in 2005\, Victorian\nBushfires in 2009 and a number of aircraft crashes both in Australia and overseas.
