DESCRIPTION:The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the IAFR will be held on Saturday 2nd of September at 07:00 GMT/UTC (08:00 BST / 17:00 AEST). After the AGM we have two webinars that can be accessed via IAFR eLearning site. \nSchedule (all times GMT/UTC)\n07:00 Annual General Meeting \n08:00 Edel Doyle: “Proposed Radiation Doses from a Phantom Study for NAI Skeletal Survey X-ray Series” \nThis presentation outlines an ongoing research study into optimum radiation dose levels in radiography skeletal surveys of children who are the suspected victims of physical abuse.\n\n08:30 Dr Heli Maijanen: “CT imaging in archaeology and anthropology”\n\nThis presentation gives a short overview of how CT imaging is used in archaeology and especially in research of deceased individuals in both archaeological and anthropological contexts. It highlights the importance of imaging in mummy studies\, paleopathological research and in creating standards for contemporary individuals for identification purposes.\nSpeaker bios\nEdel Doyle \nEdel graduated from University College Dublin in 2005. She worked in Dublin for 9 years where she was involved in NAI imaging of children. Edel has been a member of the IAFR since 2007 and has served on the international committee since 2012 in the roles of Chair\, Secretary\, Membership Secretary and International Liaison Officer. She is a founding member of the ANZ branch of the IAFR and has served on the ANZ-IAFR committee since 2018 in the roles of Secretary and DVI Coordinator. She led the pilot of the IAFR’s NAI practical workshop in Australia last year and in New Zealand earlier this year\, both of which were very positively received. Edel works full time as a National Quality Governance Officer with a private imaging company writing policies and procedures. She lives in Melbourne and is enrolled part-time in a PhD at Monash University. \nDr Heli Maijanen \nHeli Maijanen is a biological anthropologist who works as a university lecturer at the University of Oulu\, Finland. She teaches human osteology and bioarchaeology for bachelor’s and master’s students. Maijanen received her PhD from the University of Tennessee\, Knoxville\, USA\, where her focus was on forensic anthropology and on the study of human remains. \n

DESCRIPTION:The ANZ Branch of the IAFR is hosting the AGM on 27 Sep 23 at 7pm AEST. \nAfter the AGM\, Major Steve Rusman – Army Senior Radiographer (and committee member) will be presenting a webinar on the conduct of Military Mortuary Affairs whilst deployed on Operations. \nThis webinar will discuss the planning and conduct of Mortuary Affairs whilst deployed on Operations. Considerations for the Command and Control of Mortuary Affairs Officers and those involved with the logistics of moving Human Remains within and out of an Area of Operations. We will discuss pre-incident planning and what can happen when these processes aren’t well understood. Finally I will give examples on how to setup a field mortuary\, and how to change the layout to include CBRN threats. \nMajor Steve Rusman is the Army Senior Radiographer and is currently posted to the 2nd Health Battalion at Gallipoli Barracks in Brisbane. He has deployed overseas to Iraq 3 times in support of Operation Okra\, Australia’s commitment to disrupting ISIS operations in Iraq. SUMMARY:NAI Workshop for Radiographers - Shepparton\, VIC
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this course is to provide further education on the medicolegal aspects of non-accidental injuries (NAI) in paediatrics\, the importance of the radiographic projections required\, tips for positioning and documentation. \nThe course has 2 parts: \n1. An online component is required to be completed at least 48 hours prior to the workshop and will take approximately 2-2.5 hours to complete. The link to the online component will be emailed to you upon registration. Please ensure you give yourself adequate time to complete the theory component\, as you will not be able to attend the practical without completing it! \n2. The practical workshop will be held at the Medical Imaging department in Goulburn Valley Health\, Shepparton on Saturday 30th September 2023. Please note the workshop is approximately 1.5 hours long.
