{"id":1749,"date":"2021-08-18T04:20:19","date_gmt":"2021-08-18T03:20:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forensicradiography.com\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=1749"},"modified":"2021-09-03T07:56:19","modified_gmt":"2021-09-03T06:56:19","slug":"iafr-webinar-24-the-importance-of-documentation-in-medico-legal-cases","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/forensicradiography.com\/index.php\/event\/iafr-webinar-24-the-importance-of-documentation-in-medico-legal-cases\/","title":{"rendered":"IAFR Webinar #24 &#8211; The Importance of Documentation in Medico-Legal Cases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Steve Naidoo<\/strong>\u00a0is a specialist forensic pathologist, with over 30 years\u2019 experience.\u00a0 Special interests include applied forensic anatomy, the pathology of trauma, and sexual offences.\u00a0 He worked with the Truth Commission in South Africa, death investigations in Mozambique, in the Former Yugoslavia (Bosnia, Croatia and Kosovo), the 2012 Marikana Massacre, East Africa, and in The Gambia.\u00a0 As Associate Professor in Forensic Medicine, he was the first Chairman of the African Society of Forensic Medicine.\u00a0 He has had much experience in giving testimony in court.\u00a0 Steve does independent consulting and is currently involved in training in sexual abuse medicine.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Evidence from medico-legal examinations is often presented\u00a0in a court.\u00a0 In order for such evidence to be admissible, it must have been gathered and presented according to the rules of evidence appropriate for the relevant jurisdiction. Witnesses presenting evidence must be able to show an unbroken link between the evidence that they present and the subject of the examination and\/or the crime scene.\u00a0\u00a0The conduct and documentation of medico-legal examinations is therefore of the highest importance.\u00a0The talk will cover the rules and procedures of evidence in the courtroom, how the legal system operates and discuss good practice for documentation of medico-legal examinations and the pitfalls that await the unprepared. The speaker will use case examples from his wide experience as a previous state pathologist and professor of Forensic Medicine and later independent expert.<\/p>\n<p>Registration for is free for IAFR
