She has previously worked as the Clinical Educator at The Canberra<br \/>\nHospital, where she collaborated with the ICU Critical Care team and the ACT Donate Life team to<br \/>\nprovide education to staff around imaging for brain death and organ donation.<br \/>\nDr Rohit D\u2019Costa is an intensive care physician at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the State Medical<br \/>\nDirector of DonateLife Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>Brain death occurs when there is irreversible loss of all functions of the brain, including the<br \/>\nbrainstem. Determination of whole brain death is required for the legal determination of death in<br \/>\nAustralia and New Zealand. If brain death cannot be determined clinically, Medical Imaging plays a<br \/>\nvital role in demonstrating the absence of intracranial blood flow and facilitating conversations<br \/>\naround organ donation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMedical Imaging: A role in brain death\u201d by Shannon Crick, outlines the physiology of brain death,<br \/>\ndiagnosis and reviews the imaging recommendations of the Australia and New Zealand Intensive<br \/>\nCare Society on brain death.
