\nImaging: A role in brain death\u2019 by Shannon Crick and \u2018Clinical workup of the organ donor\u2019 by Dr Rohit
\nD\u2019Costa.<\/p>\n

Shannon Crick is the Deputy Director of Medical Imaging at Calvary Public Hospital in the ACT, and
\nmodality lead for CT and XR. She has previously worked as the Clinical Educator at The Canberra
\nHospital, where she collaborated with the ICU Critical Care team and the ACT Donate Life team to
\nprovide education to staff around imaging for brain death and organ donation.
\nDr Rohit D\u2019Costa is an intensive care physician at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the State Medical
\nDirector of DonateLife Victoria.<\/p>\n

Brain death occurs when there is irreversible loss of all functions of the brain, including the
\nbrainstem. Determination of whole brain death is required for the legal determination of death in
\nAustralia and New Zealand. If brain death cannot be determined clinically, Medical Imaging plays a
\nvital role in demonstrating the absence of intracranial blood flow and facilitating conversations
\naround organ donation.<\/p>\n

\u201cMedical Imaging: A role in brain death\u201d by Shannon Crick, outlines the physiology of brain death,
\ndiagnosis and reviews the imaging recommendations of the Australia and New Zealand Intensive
\nCare Society on brain death. These guidelines provide a roadmap for any hospital imaging centre
\nwilling to engage in the remarkable work of the organ donation teams across Australia.<\/p>\n

\u201cClinical workup of the organ donor\u201d by Dr Rohit D\u2019Costa, will focus on the clinical management,
\ninvestigation and facilitation of the organ donation process with particular focus on the types of
\nradiological tests that may be requested and their rationale.<\/p>\n
