The ANZ branch of the International Association of Forensic Radiographers (IAFR) delivered a successful ‘Disaster Victim Identification’ (DVI) workshop for Radiographers in Melbourne. 19 radiographers, including five IAFR members, from across Australia and New Zealand, attended the 2-day workshop. Day 1 was hosted by the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine (VIFM) and included presentations from a forensic pathologist, mortuary manager, the Coroner, the Australian Federal Police and forensic radiographers. We were also fortunate to walk through the VIFM mortuary to better understand the workflow.
Day 2 focussed more on the practical training with sessions using CT, fluoroscopy and x-ray in the Alfred Centre radiology department. Whilst this was fun, it provided challenges to the radiographers to apply their new knowledge.
