IAFR Webinar #26 – Radiographic Image Quality, Processing and Optimization

June 9, 2021 @ 18:00 - 19:00 BST

Free – £5

Daniel Sandoval is certified by the American Board of Radiology in Diagnostic Imaging Physics and holds an MS and PhD in Nuclear Engineering from the University of New Mexico (UNM). Dr. Sandoval has been a practicing Medical Physicist for the UNM Department of Radiology in Albuquerque, New Mexico USA since 2008. His research includes work with the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator in post-mortem imaging and dosimetry. He has been a member of and contributor to the International Society for Forensic Radiology and Imaging (ISFRI) since May 2014.

Abstract

Digital and computed radiography are an integral component of clinical and post mortem imaging. Although x-ray tube and detector technology are very similar across vendors, image quality can be drastically different. After this talk, attendees will be able to talk describe the underlying aspects of digital radiographic image quality; explain the effects of noise on image contrast; and list the general steps in digital image processing. We will also provide a basic understanding of image protocol optimization through specific examples of vendor customization.
