ANZ Branch Webinar: Mental Wellbeing in Forensic Radiography
July 31 @ 20:00 - 21:00 AEST
Free – $15Join the ANZ Branch of IAFR for another fantastic Webinar: Mental Wellbeing in Forensic Radiography presented by Courtney Steels
Being healthcare professionals and forensic radiographers, we have to empathise with our patients without getting too attached, be present for them whilst we have many other things going on around us and manage the confronting things we see along the way in our roles, putting on a brave face and carrying on. We can be left feeling stressed or overwhelmed at times or even just find ourselves being wound up, with a need to pause and hit the reset button. This presentation aims to bring awareness to the importance of mental health in radiographers and in particular forensic radiographers. It will discuss how to recognise a decline in wellbeing, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and outline how Mindfulness and other tools can improve and maintain good mental health. The practice of Mindfulness is about being in the present moment and gaining skills which allow us to remain calm, reduce stress and achieve the best focus and mental performance. I will also provide valuable resources and lead the group through a brief mindfulness meditation session.
Courtney Steels has been a radiographer for 10 years after graduating from Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia. She was an inaugural member of the ANZ-IAFR branch and has completed DVI training and a post grad certificate in Forensic Radiography. Her love for travel has led to working briefly in the Northern Territory and then the UK where she worked in major trauma centres throughout
the pandemic, in postmortem CT and with mobile CT scanners. Discussions around the importance of mental health are close to Courtney’s heart, as she has dealt with anxiety since she was a child and a bout of depression in late high school. Courtney is a big advocate for mindfulness practices and opening up discussions around mental health.
